A GORGEOUS 8-volume Limited Edition set of one of the most in-demand memoirs of the 19th-century.Charles Greville was born and bred into the the uppermost circles of British aristocracy and served under three British Kings and Queens, George IV, William IV and Queen Victoria. He was an amateur Cricket player, thoroughbred horse breeder and racer, as well as a friend and confidant to many in the innermost circles of British nobility. His diaries caused a sensation when first published a decade after his death and were gobbled up voraciously by British and American audience alike. This 1938 limited edition (630 copies printed with only 600 available to the general public) is bound in red cloth with gilt spine title blocked in black. Top edges gilt. Red silk book mark in each volume. All bindings square and tight with the mildest of wear to each volume, including very lightly sunned spines and a hint of small spots of foxing to text block edges. A handsome set and superior edition of a scarce title.
