Beautiful 1st Edition set of this scarce Churchill title, the seminal work on Churchill's famous ancestor, widely regarded as one of the two best military commanders in British history (Wellington). All four volumes are 1st Editions. Volumes II, III, and IV are 1st printings. Volume I is a 2nd printing, printed the same month as the first, October, 1933. All four in plum or burgundy bindings with gilt to the spine. Top edges gilt. All fold-out maps present. Square Tight Bindings, though III with a slight lean. Clean interiors, save for p/o names to front endpapers of vols II and III. Volume I with a small strip of sunning to lower spine corner. I and II with outer pages lightly foxed as are the text block edges. Volume III with two very small stains to spine. Original dust jackets with mild to lightly-moderate rubbing and edge wear. The jacket of volume I with a 1/2-inch chip to crown of spine, not affecting any text. All four jackets Present handsomely in archival mylar. A handsome, desirable and superior set.
