Duane was a staunch Thomas Jefferson supporter and was instrumental, through his journalistic support, in getting Jefferson elected during the slanderous Campaign of 1800. Jefferson rewarded Duane by appointing him Adjutant General of the young U.S. Army, a position he held during the War of 1812.
Contemporary tree calf with square tight binding. Marbled end papers. Clean interior. Sporadic light foxing. Mild rubbing to edges.
Overall a handsome and superior edition of a scarce title in unusually good condition.
