Beautiful 1864 1st Edition documenting Robert E. Lee's 1863 Northern campaign complete with the rare and one of the earliest printed maps of the Battle of Gettysburg.
Jacobs was a professor at Gettysburg College, a resident of Gettysburg at the time of the battle and an eyewitness to the action taking place all around him. His book is one of the earliest non-newspaper published accounts of the battle.
The topographical map was taken from actual battlefield measurements at the time and measures approximately 11 3/4" X 18". It depicts troop movements over the three days in color.
Brown cloth with gilt titling to front board, still nice and bright. Square tight binding. Clean interior. Mild edge wear to binding, mostly at spine ends.
The map contains a small closed separation at the lower edge with an ancient tape repair to verso.
Overall, a handsome and desirable edition with the scarce fold-out map.
