An original 18th-century newspaper printed during the first administration of President George Washington, the Columbian Centinel, dated September 25, 1790, with three different acts printed on the front page, all with the signatures of Washington in type script at the end of each.
The first and most important of the three is an act granting land in the Northwest territory (present Day Ohio) to Revolutionary War veterans who served on the Virginia Continental Line during the war.
Many revolutionary War soldiers were promised land grants as a bonus for completing the terms of their enlistments.
Another of the acts deals with maritime laws and official appointments in Maryland, Georgia, and Rhode Island, including the appointments of officials of the village of Baltimore-town, Maryland.
