England: The Northampton Mercury, 1789. Folio. Very Good. Item #13373
A beautiful original 1789 issue of the Northampton Mercury, dated August 6, 1781 with spectacular news of the Southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War, including a front-page letter from partisan guerrilla fighter Francis Marion, announcing his victory against the British at Fort Watson, South Carolina.
In the letter from Marion he talks of the ingenious plan he and Light Horse Harry Lee devised to build a tower to fire down into the fort, thus forcing the British to surrender. Marion's signature in block type appears at the end of the letter.
This issue also features the articles of surrender on the front page signed in block type by British commander Patrick Carns.
An incredible piece of original Revolutionary War history, perfect for framing and display!
