Staple-bound trade paperback. Wraps, with the front wrap featuring an illustration of the cabin built by Thomas Lincoln in 1816 in Spencer County.

Bearss was one of the most influential historians of the 20th century, rising to the rank of Chief Historian for the National Park Service and is the namesake of the Bearss Fellowship Award. As a U.S. Marine, during WW II he fought at the Battle of Guadalcanal and was severely injured by Japanese machine gun fire at the Battle of Cape Gloucester.

This edition features three large fold-out maps depicting the land settled by the Lincolns and surrounding area.
