n.p. Board of Education of Howard County, 1954. 1st Edition. Quarto. Near Fine. Item #14869

A BEAUTIFUL 1954 guide to living in Howard County, Maryland, then much different than it is today, then primarily a rural farming community outside of its historic seat, Ellicott City.

This work features 24 full-page tinted black and white historic photographs depicting life in central Maryland mid 20th-century. Each photo is accompanied by detailed text regarding the scene in the photo. Topics include the 'Old Homes of Ellicott City', 'The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Station', the 'Thomas Viaduct', the 'Homemakers' Club', 'Ellicott City', 'Conservation Practices', and many others.

Stiff carboard wraps with an illustrated pictorial map of Howard County on the front wrap. White plastic comb binding. Little wear, with just a touch of light soiling to the text block edges. The verso of the rear wrap features an illustrated map of Maryland, depicting its geological formations.

OCLC locates just four copies of this held institutionally worldwide as part of the original 23 volume series. There are no copies currently in commerce.

Overall a handsome, unique and interesting volume.
