The Ladies' Fancy Needle-Work instructor: Containing a Treatise on Different Stitches, with Illustrative Plates

London: Privately Printed, 1842. 24mo. Good+. Item #15243

A scarce 1842 3rd printing of this antebellum era sewing primer, with a fold-out broadside at the front depicting 35 different 19th-century stitches.

Charcoal grey cloth. Gilt titling and illustration to front board. All edges gilt. Clean interior. Hinges a touch tender but intact. It appears a possible second fold-out may be lacking. The text of the volume gives detailed descriptions of the stitches illustrated on the fold out, however the stitch descriptions are numbered to 71, while there are only 36 illustrations on the one fold-out.

Mild rubbing and edge wear to binding. 105pp.

Overall a scarce, and quite lovely, little volume on antebellum sewing. A nice addition to any textile or costume collection.

Price: $75.00
