New York: Privately Printed, 1831. 8vo. Good. Item #15260

A beautiful 34-page manuscript book of poetry, bound in what appears to be period wallpaper, red patterned cloth backed with sturdy rag paper.

Most of the poems are titled at the top and signed by Mrs. Maxson at the bottom, some dated and some not. Some also placed in Deruyter and others not..

With titles such as 'Loss of Friends', 'Ode to Poppy', 'The Dying', 'The Rose', etc... Mrs. Maxson touches on subjects which speak to the everyday beauty of life and nature in Madison County, along the eastern edge of Finger Lakes country.

Some of the poetry may be original, others Mrs. Maxson clearly states were copied from other sources but which obviously made an impression on her.

The cloth-paper binding is fragile and strung together with a green silk ribbon, loose at the bottom. The cloth is worn at the edges, as it significantly overhangs the thin text block and somewhat soiled.

#2C-003.
