New York: Harper's Weekly Illustrated Newspaper, 1864. Folio. Near Fine. Item #15356

A stunning 1864 CIVIL WAR poster engraving featuring President Abraham Lincoln waving the American flag rallying the troops, in the midst of his campaign for a second term as U.S. President.

This beautiful piece was done by famed artist Thomas Nast and is one of his most famous Civil War era works, and is titled "Rally Round the Flag, Boys". It is the featured centerfold in the October 8, 1864 issue of Harper's Weekly, measures 16" X 22" and is perfect for framing and display. This offering features the entire 16-page issue.

Underneath the image is a long poem after the Battle Cry of Freedom, using its signature chorus line.

An exquisite and important piece of Lincolniana and a political cartoon which helped sway public opinion in favor of Lincoln and against democratic rival and former Union General George McClellan.
