A River Runs Through It and Other Stories

Chicago, IL: University of Chicago Press, 1976. 8vo. Very Good / Very Good. Item #15366

A beautiful 1st Edition, 1st Printing copy of Maclean's seminal work, with all noted issue points present, different ISBN numbers, 'adways' on page 27, NAP, and blank line on copyright page.

Maclean's autobiographical novella was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in 1977 and remains one of greatest angling-themed books ever written.

Maclean was featured in a 1981 issue of Esquire Magazine and writer Pete Dexter wrote of the work:

"It is a story about Maclean and his brother, Paul, who was beaten to death with a gun butt in 1938. It is about not understanding what you love, about not being able to help. It is the truest story I ever read; it might be the best written. And to this day it won't leave me alone. I thought for a while it was the writing that kept bringing it around. That's the way it comes back to me: I hear the sound of the words, then I see them happen."

It is an ESSENTIAL for any quality Angling collection, and it was the first work of fiction deemed worthy enough to be printed by the University of Chicago Press.

Light blue cloth. Square, tight binding. Clean interior, save for a previous owner, apparently a friend of Maclean's, gift inscription to top of front end paper in blue ink. Mild edge wear to binding. Price clipped dust jacket has some mild rubbing and age toning to spine and edges. Presents handsomely in archival mylar.

Overall a lovely copy of the scarce 1st Printing.
