Memories of a Rear-Admiral

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1898. 8vo. Very Good. Item #15454

An engaging first-hand account from this long-serving US Navy officer, known mostly for his active participation in the Battle of Hampton Roads, the first battle to feature two ironclad warships. Franklin was aboard the USS Roanoke during the first day of the battle and his ship, along with several others, succumbed to the superiority of the CSS Virginia, the Confederate ironclad.

Tan cloth with an attractive and elaborately illustrated front board, Square tight binding. Clean Interior. Mild rubbing and edge wear.

A lovely edition of an excellent 19th-century US Naval memoir.
