Benedict Arnold at the Battle of Valcour Thwarts British Invasion of Hudson River Valley During the Revolutionary War

London: The Gentleman's Magazine, 1777. 1st Edtion. 8vo. Very Good. Item #15582

An original first hand account of the Battle of Valcour Island in October, 1776 on Lake Champlain during the American Revolution.

The Battle was one of the first naval battles by the United States Navy and despite Benedict Arnold's defeat, put off a planned British invasion of the Hudson River valley until the following year, allowing the Americans to better prepare for the assault.

Arnold lost 11 ships and approximately 200 men, but his rag tag tiny army performed valiantly and ultimately achieved its goal.

This detailed report is the one published by the Continental Congress after receiving Arnold's and other reports after the battle.

#2C-068. Disbound.

This issue is complete in 48 pages with original fold-out called for and would make an excellent to any fine Revolutionary War collection.
