Slavery and Marriage. A Dialogue

Oneida, NY: Oneida Community, 1850. 1st Edition. 16mo. Near Fine. Item #15664

Scarce 13-page pamphlet that questions the legitimacy and relevance of the institution of marriage by using the ongoing heated debates over the institution of slavery, equating marriage as a form of slavery.

The Oneida Community was a religious perfection/utopian community founded by Noyes in 1848. Members practiced free love and believed "that Jesus had already returned in AD 70, making it possible for them to bring about Jesus's millennial kingdom themselves, and be free of sin and perfect in this world, not just in Heaven".

13pp, unopened at top. A small light strip of discoloration along the lower fore edge of front wrap.

#1A-027.
