The Pennsylvania Gazette 1740-1748 (3-volume set of facsimile reproductions of Benjamin Franklin's newspaper)

Philadelphia, Pa: Microsurance, 1968. Folio. Very Good. Item #15848

A large three-volume set of the Pennsylvania Gazette while Benjamin Franklin was still the sole printer.

The Pennsylvania Gazette was one of the United States' most prominent newspapers from 1728 until 1800. In the several years leading up to the American Revolution the paper served as a voice for colonial opposition to British colonial rule, especially as it related to the Stamp Act, and the Townshend Acts.

This set was part of a larger set reprinting on high quality partial rag paper the run of the newspaper from 1728-1789 and comprises volumes 5-7.

The facsimiles are superb and feature each issue as it was published, including colonial and international news as well as local advertising, including runaway slave ads and slave sales.

Blue cloth. Square tight bindings. Clean interiors save for library markings at the bottom of spine and on front pastedowns, but overall very clean for ex-lib copies. Mild rubbing and edge wear.

Overall an exceptional set of an extremely tough to come by title.
