Commemorative Exercises of the Two-Hundredth Anniversary of the Friends' Meeting-House, at Third Haven

Philadelphia, Pa: Times printing House, 1884. 1st Edition. 8vo. Very Good. Item #15962

An exceptional piece of Eastern Shore of Maryland and Talbot County Quaker history.

This volume commemorates the bicentennial of the oldest meeting house in America in continual use and is from one of the Shore's oldest Quaker families, the Troth family.

This volume is from the library of Samuel Troth, with his bookplate, and is signed by him on the rear board in 1885, underneath his handwritten research indicating that the first marriage which took place in 1684 was between William Troth and Isabella Harrison on February 20,1685. Samuel notes that he is the great-great grandparent of the groom and that at the time of this writing he was in his 85th year.

Also included with this piece is a tipped in late 19th-century photographic card of the meetinghouse, possibly taken and published as a token of the 200th celebration.

Brown cloth. Titling stamped in gilt. Square tight binding. Clean interior, save for troth family notations. Mild rubbing and edge wear.

A lovely edition with a remarkable 17th-century Third Haven connection.
