A stunning 1922 edition of the work of German sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow (1764 - 1850), based on the work of influential ancient Greek sculptor Polykleitos.
Foreword by German artist Maximilian Schaefer (1851-1916).
Elephant Folio, with 30 double-page tipped in black and white plates, with descriptive text in German. Each plate measures 24 1/2" X 18 1/2" and features detailed three dimensional measurements with some of the drawings full-body while others smaller body parts completing the plate.
Quarter burgundy cloth over paper covered boards, with the front board featuring a beautifully illustrated full-length image of the female form.
Mild rubbing and edge wear, more so at corners and spine ends, with the heel of the spine sporting a closed one-inch tear in the cloth along the front joint.
A gorgeous and quite desirable edition.
