Considered the most extensive history of 19th-century college football. Edwards played guard for the Princeton Tigers from 1896-1899 before being appointed to collector of internal revenue of the district of New York later in his career.
Walter Camp, Yale's captain '78-'79 wrote the prologue. When the mayor of New York was shot at on a steamer in Hoboken Edwards used his football training to tackle the assailant even after being shot at twice, thereby winning a Carnegie medal.
