One of the Earliest Depictions of Savannah, Georgia on a Map

1740 Map of the Southern American Colonies and the West Indies

London: The Gentleman's Magazine, 1740. 1st Edition. Quarto. Near Fine. Item #17190

"An Accurate Map of the WEST INDIES, Exhibiting not only all the Islands possessed by the English, French, Spaniards, & Dutch, but also all the Towns and Settlements on the Continent of America adjacent thereto"

A lovely pre-Revolutionary War map of the Southern Colonies, the West Indies, and Northern South America. This map is one of the earliest to depict Savannah, Georgia, a colony which had been founded just seven years prior.

To the north of Georgia, the map is bordered at Chesapeake Bay, the early Colonial towns of St Augustine, Jamestown, 'Charles Town' (Charleston), as well as French Louisiana which expands from the Appalachians westward.

This map is extremely detailed and also features rivers, lakes, many Indian tribes, some political divisions, as well as trade routes.

This map measures 15.5" X 12 1/4 and is perfect for framing and display. It also comes with the original 1740 issue of the Gentleman's Magazine in which it was featured. Original fold lines.
