Bird's-Eye View of the City of Philadelphia --its Streets, Avenues, and Public Buildings--and of the Centennial Buildings in Fairmount Park.

New York: Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, 1876. 1st Edition. Very Good. Item #17324

A STUNNING 1876 Illustrated Street Map of Philadelphia, commemorating the opening of the Centennial Exhibition being held in the City of Brotherly Love.

This scarce map was originally published as a supplement in Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. The map depicts the city facing west from the Delaware River in all of its Industrial Revolution glory.

The lower margin features the title in bold, black ink, as well as a key identifying important streets, buildings and landmarks. Included are iconic structures such as Independence Hall, the U.S. Mint, Franklin Square, the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, the Pennsylvania Railroad, and many more.

Streets identified include Market, Chestnut, Walnut, Locust, and many other East-West major thoroughfares.

This historic piece, nearly 150 years old, measures 36" X 26" framed, while the image measures 30' X 21'.

The map is in Very Good condition, with original fold lines, some creasing and a few short closed tears along the edges, and presents quite handsomely.

The perfect centerpiece for any modern-day Philadelphia home or collection.
