A spectacular 1865 Illustrated Civil War newspaper with a front-page featuring one of the iconic images of President Abraham Lincoln after his assassination by John Wilkes Booth.
This May 6, 1865 issue of Harper's Weekly Illustrated Newspaper is one of the most desirable collectibles relating to Lincoln's assassination.
The front-page woodcut engraving is the famous image of Lincoln sitting in a chair and reading to his son Robert Todd, an image featured on the 1984 US postage stamp, "A Nation of Readers".
Complete in 16 pages, this issue also features large, full-page engravings of Lincoln on his death bed as well as his funeral procession in Washington, DC. Accompanying the engravings are headline reports on the funeral and the hunt for the assassins.
This historic piece is in Very Good condition, with mild edge wear and light age toning.
