A very scarce 1876 1st edition of this post-Civil War Washington, DC guidebook, with the original map tipped in at front.

This volume details a variety of important buildings and locations in the city of Washington and the surrounding areas, such as Mount Vernon and Arlington. Black and white illustrated plates.

95pp. Green cloth. Gilt titling. Tight square binding. Clean interior. Small contemporary bookseller ticket to front pastedown of M.E. Boardman on 15th Street in Washington, DC. Silverfishing to cloth. Mild rubbing and edge wear.

The black and white map measures 10 1/2" X 9 1/4" and depicts many of the tourist attractions and landmarks still popular today, with a 28-location key at the top right. Others include the City Markets, the City Asylum, the Arsonel, and Congressional Burying Ground. The lower left corner is clipped, affecting only some of the margin.
