Not Far From the River

Barre, MA: Barre Publishers, 1967. 1st Edition. 8vo. Fine. Item #17668

A beautiful 1967 1st Edition from one of America's most beloved fishing writers, warmly inscribed to a very close friend from the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Limited to just 1500 copies, this is copy number 148.

"Lamb (1899-1986) was a New York City investment banker, avid angler and gifted writer. He was best known for his fishing adventures in the northeastern U.S. and Atlantic Canada. He particularly loved fly fishing for Atlantic salmon. Lamb was a wealthy man who was involved in several fish and game clubs, and donated the proceeds of his books toward community and conservation efforts. Though sometimes hard to find, Lamb’s books are highly sought after and enjoyed by a dedicated group of outdoor book enthusiasts." - outdoor sporting library

This particular piece is a nice association copy, written to his close friend Roberta Thomas (wife of Frederick) of the 17th-century manor near Easton, Maryland, 'Troth's Fortune', with the inscription reading - "To Roberta Thomas with my love - Dana S. Lamb"

101pp. Black cloth over patterned paper. Square tight binding. Clean interior. Book in impeccable condition. Text block edges with the lightest trace of foxing. Lacking slipcase.

Overall a lovely 1st Edition copy of this fishing classic, scarce signed by the author.
