North Conway, NH: Mountain Pond Publishing, 1993. 1st Edition. Quarto. Fine / Near Fine. Item #17740
A RARE five-volume set, one of just 15 copies of the 'Author's Edition' published, this being set #2, Farrow Allen's own set, presumably set #1 having gone to Stewart.
Handwritten on the front endpaper of each volume is a presentation dedication to Farrow Allen, identifying each volume as #2 of just 15 printed, and with his and Stewart's signatures.
Farrow Allen (1898-1985) and his wife were close friends of Stewart's, with Farrow being one of the first "Group of of Seven" African-American doctors to be admitted to the American College of Surgeons.
"Dr. Allen was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and graduated from Harvard College in 1923 and from Harvard Medical School in 1926.
Dr. Allen began medical practice in 1928 at Harlem Hospital and eventually became an attending surgeon there.
He became an attending surgeon at Sydenham in 1946." - NY Times
