An original 1813 newspaper with a back-page headline report announcing that the British have landed in Kent County, on Maryland's Eastern Shore, and burned both Georgetown and Fredericktown in Cecil County, the towns on opposite sides of the Sassafras River.

This Friday, May 21, 1813 issue of the Weekly Messenger is complete in four pages and features compelling War of 1812 news. The headline reads - "Burning of Georgetown and Frederick" and goes on to give eyewitness details of the horrors. The report is approximately seven inches in length.

Mild wear to newspaper including a light dampstain which covers about half of the paper.
