Washington, DC: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1891-95. Near Fine. Item #17833
A beautiful 19th-century print from the Official U.S. Government history of the Civil War depicting an often forgotten aspect of the War, the sick and wounded and the logistics of managing them.
This large print depicts the myriad ways Union soldiers were transported while receiving care, such as via railroad, Conestoga wagon, carriage, Hospital ship, etc.. The plan resembles an architectural drawing in that it features the layouts of the insides of various types of railroad cars.
Also included are illustrations of litters, tents, and other surgical equipment.
This engraving was published in the Atlas volume to Accompany the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies 1861-1865, the massive 128-volume government history of the War published in the 1870s. The Atlas was published later in 1891-95.
This historic piece measures approximately 30" X 19" and is perfect for framing and display!
