Bowditch published what is widely regarded as the most influential work in the history of navigation, 'The American Practical Navigator'.

Bowditch published his first revision of the of the navigator by J.H. Moore in 1799. Discovering more than 8000 errors, in the work of Moore, he decided to publish his own work, "The New American Practical Navigator", in 1802 and it quickly became the preeminent and most used work on celestial and maritime navigation.

Bowditch's work has been updated and published every year since and is still published today.

Trade paperback in original typographical wraps. 98pp. Square tight binding. Clean interior, save for three small personal library blind stamps, one on the title page then one each on the two succeeding pages.

Wraps are a bit worn, with mild edge wear, a few small chips, age toning around edges, and a few unobtrusive pencil markings. Front wrap with a couple of small, light dampstains.
