An 1874 holographic letter written and signed by Clara Barton to her nephew Sam from Washington, DC on February 28, 1874.

In her letter, Barton speaks of business earlier that day with General John Murray, and was writing from the residence of Congressman Robert Safford Hale - "This is as far as I am at the moment. I am at Judge Hale's spending the balance of the day after my morning business hours and catch this moment to write while Judy and Cousin Vina (Hale's wife) are occupied." Hale at this time was Chairman of the Committee on Washington, DC.

She has signed the letter at the bottom of the last page simply, "Clara".

The letter is two sheets, folded vertically in the center, four pages and written on just one side each. It has been laid down on conservation thin card stock for preservation.
