New York: Edmund M. Blunt, 1817. 9th Edition. 8vo. Very Good+. Item #18110

A Rare Early-19th century printing of THE seminal early American coastal navigation guide. This is the 9th Edition.

Seventeen black and white engraved map plates. Like nearly all extant copies of the ninth edition, this one is lacking the nearly-unobtainable 18-page "Supplement", which was given out free to some who purchased the regular edition, laid in at the time of purchase.

Original calf, with gilt ruling to spine and burgundy title label. xvi, 328, 85, [23]. Square tight binding. Rebaxked in sympathetic leather. Clean interior, save for large beautiful ad for Blunt, the publisher of this work, and William Hooker, engraver of the maps contained therein, on the front pastedown. Leather with mild rubbing and wear. Title label on spine with some chipping and loss. Sporadic foxing throughout. Light damp stain along upper gutter of beginning pages.

Overall, a very nice early New York edition of Blunt's defining work.
