An extremely rare romance novel of the Civil War.
Byron (1838-1916) was a poet, author, school teacher, and accomplished painter. She was also a Confederate nurse working in the Civil War hospital at Harrisonburg, where she met her future husband Pendleton Byron. They married in 1864 and he went on to become a lawyer and Mayor of Harrisonburg. Emma received a Confederate pension by the state of Virginia after the war.
Patterned typographical wraps. Tight binding, but with a slight lean. Rubbing and wear to wraps, with a previous owner signature in pencil to front wrap and title page. Pages significantly tanned.
Presents handsomely in archival mylar.
