Two 1815 post-War of 1812 newspapers with front-page charts showing election results across the state of Maryland.
These two historic pieces feature a plethora of who's who of Maryland Founding Father names, such as Lloyd, Tilghman, Seth, Dickinson, Hambleton, and more.
The first issue, dated September 26, 1815, features primary election results from the Democratic-Republican party for the House of Delegates in Maryland's General Assembly and lists 12 of the state's political subdivisions, including five counties from the Eastern Shore - Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne's, Caroline, and Talbot. Among those victorious was Edward Lloyd, the largest slaveholder on the Eastern Shore.
The second issue, dated October 7, 1815 depicts general election results across the state, and again, Lloyd secured election to the General Assembly.
These two issues are each complete in four pages, in Very Good condition, and offer a fascinating glimpse into Maryland political life coming out of the War of 1812, which ended earlier in the same year. #1M-026.
