Delaware Poems
North Montpelier, VT: The Driftwood Press, 1943. 1st Edition. 8vo. Very Good / Very Good. Item #18488
A very nice Signed, 1st Edition copy of Byron's second book, and second work of poetry, which like his first, concentrates on the Eastern Shore of Chesapeake Bay, though this time devoted to Delaware as opposed to Maryland.
Very scarce in the original dust jacket, this copy also has laid in the original publisher advertising flyer. Signed in blue fountain pen ink by Byron an a front prelim. On the same page, upper fore edge corner, is a small contemporary Christmas tree sticker, which has some offsetting on the facing page. Tipped in watercolor silk-screen print frontis by Byron's wife, Edna.
Byron was known as 'The Chesapeake Thoreau' and the 'Voice of the Chesapeake'. His eloquent poetry and prose captured perfectly the romantic, often difficult and sometimes perilous existence of the nearly extinct Chesapeake Bay waterman of the early 20th century.
Navy blue cloth with titling in gilt. Square tight binding. Clean interior. 192pp. Blue endpapers with some fading around edges. Mild edge wear to dust jacket, which presents handsomely in archival mylar.
Overall, one of the finest examples of this classic Byron volume of poetry we've scene.
