This detailed history includes documents and correspondences from such notable figures such as Daniel Dulaney, John Adams, Robert Morris, Richard Henry Lee, Charles Thomson (Secretary of the Continental Congress), Thomas Sim Lee, Robert Alexander, and many more, including two of the authors ancestors, Robert and Samuel Purviance
"Robert Purviance, the elder, (1733–1806) was born in Ireland and settled in Baltimore during the 1760s, establishing with his brother Samuel Purviance, Jr. (died c.1788), a successful shipping and distillery business. During the Revolution the firm engaged in privateering, and both brothers were active in local politics. Robert Purviance was appointed naval officer at Baltimore in August 1789 and served in the post until December 1794 when he succeeded Otho H. Williams as collector of the port." - National Archives
Publisher's brown cloth. paper title label to spine. Square tight binding. Clean interior, save for one of the rear blanks, with page notations to verso. Mild rubbing and edge wear, including a shallow chip to crown of spine. Offsetting to title page where a former piece of paper must have been.
