The Vanishing Race: The Last Great Indian Council, and The Indians' Story of The Custer Fight

Philadelphia, PA: National American Indian Memorial Association Press, 1913. 1st Edition. 8vo. Very Good. Item #18909

A very nice example of this history of the Last Great Indian Council, which occurred in 1909 in the Little Horn Valley, Montana.

The "Last Great Indian Council" was a significant gathering of American Indian Chiefs in Montana, documented by Joseph K. Dixon, to share stories and farewells, a poignant cultural event. Approximately 32 chiefs from various U.S. reservations attended to record their histories, folklore, and farewells, framed by photographer Joseph K. Dixon as a final, significant council of its kind.

In this work, Dixon eloquently captures this event through photographs and text.
