A lovely piece of pocket-sized 1820s Methodist history, bound on original publisher's full leather.

552pp. 48mo, measuring 2 3/8" by 3 3/4" and filled with hundreds of hymns. Full calf with black spine label. Titling in gilt. Binding with rubbing and edge wear. Binding square and tight. Inscription to front flyleaf indicates the book was purchased by one Rebecca White from the notable Philadelphia and New Jersey Reverend Daniel Fidler (1771-1842). Sporadic foxing.

Fidler was a prominent Methodist minister active in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the early 19th century. Records indicate he was serving in the Philadelphia Conference and was a well-known itinerant preacher during the late 18th to early 19th centuries, having served as a traveling preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church.

He was a traveling Methodist preacher (itinerant) affiliated with the Philadelphia Conference, often working in New Jersey (e.g., Burlington County).
