A 1907 manuscript written and signed by American Red Cross Founder Clara Barton, dated 1907.

This hand-written piece is matted and framed along with a portrait of Barton. The Civil War nurse writes - "Thomas Jefferson in alluding to slavery - said "I tremble when I remember that God is just / Clara Barton. / May 5, 1907".

Barton is referring to the famous Jefferson quote - "I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is Just", pondering his own as well as other slaveholders' fate in the afterlife when judgement day comes.

Barton's handwriting is crisp and clear, as is her signature, Framed and matted, this piece measures approximately 12" X 9" and would make a fine centerpiece to any Barton, Medical, or Black Americana collection.
