c.1960. Very Good. Item #19137

A striking c.1960 promotional map by George Mathis, part of a series depicting certain areas of California, possibly due to the 1960 Winter Olympics, held at Squaw Valley in Placer County.

Officially titled "California's Golden County Placer County", this map covers the wildly popular region around Lake Tahoe, spanning from Sacramento in the southwest up to Sierra City and over to Reno in the east. Small caricatures and notations highlight roads, trails and points of interest.

Points of interest highlighted in a key at the bottom include Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, Emigrant Gap, Dutch Flat, Lover's Leap, Cape Horn, Auburn Old Town, and the Placer County Museum.

This colorful map measures 21.5" X 16.5" and is perfect for framing and display!
