A vibrant mid-century map depicting the United States as it marched toward toward Civil War.

The third in a series of four historical pictorial maps by Karl Smith for Linweave depicting illustrating the territorial expansion of the United States.

Linweave was a historic American paper company known for its high-quality, distinctive papers and promotional materials, most famously the psychedelic 1967 Linweave Tarot, a unique deck commissioned to showcase their cardstock. The company also produced "Limited Editions" books.

Smith's map depicts the United States as tensions rose across the land and ultimately erupted in war. Illustrations throughout the map depict life within the states and territories at the time, such as the Mormons in Utah, the Pony Express, the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863, Texas Annexation, Oklahoma as Indian Territory, the Oregon Territory, and landed ceded to the U.S. after the Mexican-American War.

Some mild edge wear and age toning in the margins. This historic piece measures 22" X 17.5" and is perfect for framing and display!
