DuBois, Pa: Privately Printed, 1969. Very Good. Item #19443

A striking 1960s pictorial map of this breathtaking North Central Pennsylvania landmark, featuring 13 black-and-white illustrated vignettes of picturesque scenes from up and down the Gorge.

The map is spilt into two sides below the headline, one of the upper gorge and next to it the lower, depicting the plentiful outdoor recreational activities as well as natural landmarks. The legend in the lower right identifies symbols depicting fishing spots, campsites, hiking trails, roads, picnic facilities, state parks, lookouts, roads, and much more!

The vignettes along the top and bottom depict pleasant scenes from the gorge, including the Tiadaghton Elm, Little Pine Dam, Stony Fork, Camp Kline, the Harrison Point Vista, and more! Important towns include Wellsboro, Lock Haven, Ansonia and Jersey Shore, among others.

"Pine Creek had flowed northeasterly until about 20,000 years ago, when the receding Laurentide Continental Glacier dammed it with rocks, soil, and other debris. Glacial meltwater formed a lake near the present town of Ansonia, and when it overflowed the debris dam, the creek flooded to the south. Ultimately, it carved a deep channel on its way south to the West Branch Susquehanna River." - wiki
