for A Millar, 1750-01-01. 2nd Printing. Hardcover. 12mo - over 6. Very Good. Item #7485
Somewhat contemporary, though I believe later, full speckled calf. Square Tight Binding. Gilt ruled spine with contemporary black Gilt spine label. A WONDERFUL piece of 18th-century George III history, this particularly scarce title is filled with contemporary marginalia in ink which has aged to a rich golden brown. At the bottom of the title page, this previous owner also wrote Vol.II, however this is a single volume tome and it would appear he was alluding to the fact that this is the 1750 2nd edition. The profuse notations appear to be from the 19th century as they reference Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, the election of 1800 and the Whig Party. A FASCINATING piece of British history as well as a unique AMERICANA artifact. Mild rubbing and wear to binding. Lastly, a clue which would indicate this volume was the subject of a 19th-century restoration is that some of the marginalia has been lost to what appears to be a neat trimming of the text block.
