Twelve volumes in six. Beautiful 1857 six-volume edition of this classic work on early to early-modern British royal history, originally published in 1843. Three-quarter pebbled black morocco over marbled paper boards. Raised bands with gilt to spines. Marbled end papers. Light to moderate wear to edges and corners. All bindings square and tight with no exposed hinges, though lower outer joint of third volume (vols 6 & 7) with closed crack. Moderate foxing through volumes. Extremely light 19th-century gift inscription in pencil to flyleaf of each volume. Other pencil scribble to rear flyleaf of volume 12. Overall, a handsome Very Good set of this historical classic.
