1781 Revolutionary War newspaper NATHANAEL GREENE Otho Williams SIEGE of NINETY SIX

England: The Northampton Mercury, 1781. Folio. Very Good. Item #900301

A spectacular 1781 Revolutionary War newspaper with FRONT-PAGE reports of events in South Carolina during the lead up to Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown.

The front page consists of a report of the Continental Army's Siege of the British backcountry stronghold Ninety-Six, including excerpts from his official report to George Washington, as well as the official casualty report signed in block type at the end by Marylander and Continental officer OTHO HOLLAND WILLIAMS.

Contemporary pieces pertaining to Williams are extremely scarce and he is widely regarded as one of the more effective and unsung heroes of the war.

The front page also contains reports of Traitor Benedict Arnold's campaign for the British in Virginia and a report of a skirmish around the lines of New York City.

This newspaper is in Very Good condition and would make a fine centerpiece to any quality Revolutionary War collection. Perfect for framing and display!
